Billionaire Paul Allen,the co-found of Microsoft revealed through Twitter that he has found the Japanese Navy’s biggest warship at the bottom of the sea in the Philippines particularly in the areas of Sibuyan Sea in the Visayas. The wreckage was discovered 70 years after the might warship sank by the Allied Forces.
The 62-year-old Paul Allen announced through his official website that his Octopus’ remote operated probe Octo ROV located the Musashi on Monday. The Octopus is also outfitted with an exploration submarine.
According to Paul Allen his luxury yacht and exploration ship, the M/Y Octopus found the Musashi one kilometer deep on the floor of the Sibuyan Sea.
As a proof of Paul Allen’s discovery, he posted a photo of a valve from the wreckage, which the billionaire described as the “first confirmation” that it was of Japanese origin. The co-founder of Microsoft and visionary Paul Allen promised to post a video of the ship’s catapult and valve areas.
Based upon the history of Musashi, the American warplanes sank the once mighty warship in the Sibuyan Sea on October 24, 1944, at the height of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, which is considered as the largest naval encounter of World War II in which the US and Australian Forces defeated the Japanese Imperial Navy.
The discovery of the Musashi in the Philippines already made international headlines but according to the Philippine Navy and Coast Guard they were not informed of the discovery.
