The President of the Republic of the Philippines, Pres. Benigno Simeon Aquino III will address the nation for the second time since the deadly January 25 Mamasapano incident that killed 44 members of the PNP-SAF combatants. Pres. Aquino will deliver his message to the nation at around 6:30 PM today, February 6, 2015.
The scheduled speech of President Aquino tonight comes amid reports that suspended PNP chief Alan Purisima offered to resign in the face of allegations that he planned the botched SAF operations against Malaysian terrorist Marwan.
According to earlier reports surfaced online, the embattled PNP chief Purisima called the shots and reported directly to Pres. Aquino even he has been suspended by the Ombudsman over corruption allegations.
Meanwhile, according to some Malacanang insiders, the President’s message tonight is for him to accept full responsibility for the Mamasapano incident which costs the lives of the fallen 44 who are considered heroes right now by the Filipino citizens.
During previous reports, Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr., noted that the President will only deliver his address once the PNP Board of Inquiry completes its probe on the fatal police operation.
During the previous televised address of the President on January 28, 2015, he admitted prior knowledge of the police operation, but noted that the Special Action Force chief had observed “very minimum compliance” with his directive for proper coordination.
