TransAsia Turboprop Plane Crashes in Taiwan

A TransAsia ATR 72-6000 Turboprop plane with 58 people on board crashed in Taiwan during a domestic flight as it plunged into a river outside Taiwan’s capital city of Taipei won Wednesday. According to initial report a total of 17 people were rescued and dozens trapped inside.

The TransAsia domestic flight hit a road bridge before plowing into the river, based upon Television images, rescuers was shown standing on large sections of broken wreckage trying to pull passengers out of the plane with ropes.

Some of the rescued passengers includes children who put in dinghies and taken to the shore while other victims were loaded on stretchers and all the 17 people being rescued were taken to hospitals the report stated.

As of press time, the officials of Taiwanese emergency services did not immediately released their official comment on the incident. The plane crash happened just before 11:00 AM (0300 GMT), a few minutes after the plane took off from Taipei’s Songshan airport en route to the island of Kinmen.
