The official entries of the 2014 Metro Manila Film Festiva (MMFF) is now considered as the most successful edition of the annual festival showcasing the best in Philippine movies. According to the latest box office income report of the MMFF-entry, within 12 days in theaters nationwide, is on its way to reach the P1 Billion mark.
According to the MMDA, the organizers of the MMFF, the 40th edition of the festival has already earned P949 million nationwide as of January 5, 2015 as confirmed by MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino during an interview with ABS-CBN.
Compared to the previous earnings of the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival, the eight entries earned P936 million in the same period last year.
Although the MMDA did not release the exact box office income of the eight MMFF entry movies, the MMDA noted that the Vice Ganda-starrer “The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin” remains the top-earning entry, followed by the horror sequel “Feng Shui,” Vic Sotto and Ryzza Mae Dizon’s “My Big Bossing,” and the romantic-comedy “English Only, Please.”
During the first week of the MMFF, the movie “English Only, Please” was not among the leading entries, or the top four highest grossing movies of the 2014 MMFF. The Jennylyn Mercado and Derek Ramsay movie overtook Dingdong Dantes’ “Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles” after winning last December 27 awarding ceremony as the MMFF 2014 2nd Best Picture.
