The City of Vigan, one of the most popular cities in the country because of its pre-colonial era community, has been choosen as one of the New7Wonders Cities of the World as announced by the organizers on Sunday night in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. With the achievement of Vigan City, the Philippines is now recognized as one of the location of the best cities in the world.

The announcement was released online by the founder and president of New7Wonders contest, Bernard Weber, according to him, the results are based on votes gathered worldwide since the competition began.
The New7Wonders Cities are Beirut in Lebanon, Doha in Qatar, Durban, Havana, Kuala Lumpur, La Paz, and Vigan City in Ilocos Sur. According to the New7Wonders organizing committee, they will now checked, validated and independently verified and once the verification process has been completed, the New7Wonders will then work with the confirmed cities to organize the official inauguration events.
According to Bernard Weber, there were more than 1,200 nominees from 220 different countries took part in the contest. The New7Wonders, according to the organizers “represent the global diversity of urban society. For the first time in human history, more than half of our planet’s population lives in cities and this election emphasizes the dramatically challenging character of our changing world” Webber stated.
Vigan City will now join the Philippines’ fellow New7Wonders awardee, the Underground River in Palawan, who won earlier as one of the New7Wonders of Nature.
