Bagyong Ruby (Hagupit) Weakens From 215 Kph to 195 Kph But Still Dangerous

The country’s weather bureau, PAGASA, confirmed on their latest typhoon update, that Bagyong Ruby (Hagupit) has weakened from 215 kph speed down to 195 kph as it approaches the Philippines. PAGASA noted that Bagyong Ruby decreased its maximum sustained winds from the previous forecast released by the agency.

According to PAGASA on their 5:00 PM weather update, at around 4:00 PM today, Bagyong Ruby was packing a maximum sustained winds of 195 kph near the center, the gustiness of the typhoon also decreased from the previous 250 kph down to 230 kph on the latest PAGASA update.

PAGASA also noted that Bagyong Ruby was located at 370 km East of Borongan, Eastern Samar. The weather bureau noted that the gradual weakening of the typhoon is due to the it’s interaction with the northeasterlies of the amihan in Luzon.

Bagyong Ruby is expected to stay on track, moving west northwest at 13 kph and was expected to make landfall in Eastern Samar-Northern Samar area by Saturday evening.

Although Bagyong Ruby weakens, DOST Secretary Mario Montejo, and various government authorities warned that the danger posed by the typhoon remain the same
