The province of Batanes particularly in Itbayat was hit by a magnitude 6.2 earthquake which shook at around 11:29 AM (local time) on Friday, morning, November 21, 2014 as confirmed by the Philippine Institue of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
According to Phivolcs, the epicenter of the quake was located at 214 kilometers southwest of Itbayat. Although there was no damage in areas affected by the earthquake, Phivolcs noted that aftershocks are expected because of the tremor.
The government agency, Phivolcs also allayed fears of a possible tsunami that could most parts of Luzon. The earthquake’s Intensity III was also felt in Calayan Group of Island in the extreme northern Luzon.
The Philippines is one of the countries in the Asia Pacific Region that belongs to the world-famous “Pacific Ring of Fire” therefore an Earthquake is already expected from time to time hitting various parts of the country.
