The Philippines’ main international hub, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal I ends its dominance in the “Worst Airports in the World” list, in a survey conducted by the website The Guide to Sleeping in Airports. NAIA dropped to fourth place after topping the list for three straight years.
Based upon the report posted by the website, the Manila Airport, which was named after the late Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr., still showed the same complaints by some travelers. Some of the most common complaints against the NAIA Terminal 1 were “overcrowding, lengthy queues, limited seating, unfriendly immigration/customs offices and smelly toilets.”
Although NAIA is still included in the “worst airport in the world” list, the site also noted that the rehabilitation work at the Terminal 1 finally started this year. They also added that there are efforts to decongest the airport by transferring some international airlines to NAIA Terminal 3.
Topping the “World’s Worst Airport” list is Pakistan’s Islamabad Benazir Bhuto International Airport which according to the survey made by the “Sleeping In Airport” website, the airport is considered as comparable to “a central prison,” because of its crowds and the absence of crowd control.
According to the survey, the Pakista’s airport has pervasive corruption, aggressive-yet-inconsistent security checks, and the overall lack of cleanliness and technology.
The site also noted that the annual survey is based on traveler feedback in terms of “service, amenities, sleep-ability and at times, good-old-kindness,” and how limited an airport fared in the four C’s of airport travel: comfort, convenience, cleanliness and customer service.
