Typhoon Ompong Exits Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR)

Typhoon Ompong, with an international name “Vongfong”, has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the state weather bureau announced on Saturday afternoon October 11, .

According to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), typhoon Ompong was last seen outside PAR at 1 p.m., 840 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. It was last monitored with maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour (kph) and with gustiness higher than 200 kph.

Typhoon Ompong was the strongest typhoon to enter the Philippines this year, however, it did not make a landfall. The typhoon, which entered the PAR on Tuesday October 7, is now heading to Japan. It is moving northwest at 13 kilometers per hour.

According to international weather bureau, Typhoon Vongfong is the worst typhoon to hit Japan this year. Japanese officials have already warned of high waves, gusts, landslides and heavy rains.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said in an advisory that a thunderstorm is affecting Manila, Marikina, Quezon City, Malabon, Navotas, Caloocan, Valenzuela, Province of Rizal and some portions of Zambales, as of posting time. PAGASA added that Iloilo, Capiz, Antique, Occidental Mindoro and Palawan will experience mooderate to occasional heavy rains.

The weather bureau warned the public to prepare and take precautionary measures against possible flashfloods, heavy rains and lightning.
