The Philippine national men’s basketball squad, Gilas Pilipinas will take action today, September 26, 2014, on their first Quarter Finals match up against the unbeaten Middle Eastern squad, Qatar in the Basketball tournament of the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. The game between the Philippines and Qatar will start at around 5:30 PM, it will be shown live on TV5.

A day after the heartbreaking defeat of the Philippines against powerhouse team Iran yesterday, the Filipinos will face one of their toughest opponent in the competition, the Qatar National squad, which is still unbeaten since the start of the Men’s basketball competition of the Incheon Asian Games.

Qatar enters the Quarter Finals of the Asian Games basketball by topping Group F after they defeated Kuwait and Japan in its first two games of the competition.
Two of the Qatar’s most prominent player is Khalid Suliman Abdi who averaged 18.5 points in the tournament while Erfan Ali Saeed also provided a solid performance with 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
Due to the three-year residency role of the Incheon Asian Games, Qatar did not get the service of naturalized player Jarvis Hayes so he was replaced by the veteran 36-year-old Bonney Harold Watson, the Al-Rayyan basketball point guard who stands at 5 foot and 11 inches.
The Qatar national basketball team, which is ranked at No. 47 in the official FIBA Ranking worldwide. The team placed 6th during the 2013 FIBA Asia Basketball Championship held in Manila.
The Qataris had a rich basketball history with their best finished during the 2005 FIBA Asia Championship wherein they garnered the bronze medal of the competition and a ticket to the 2006 FIBA World Cup hosted by Japan last 2006.
