The Philippine National Men’s Basketball Team, Gilas Pilipinas defeated the hot-shooting Indian national basketball team as the country showcased a hot start on their bid to capture the Gold medal of the Asian Games held in Incheon, South Korea. The Gilas Pilipinas, the team who made a mark in the recently concluded 2014 World Cup in Spain, opened their Asian Games campaign with a 16-point run as LA Tenorio and Jeff Chan, led the Filipinos offense during the first half. The Philippines also led as much as 19 points in the Philippines vs. India Asian Basketball match up.
Although the Philippines carried their double-digit advantage into the fourth quarter, but India caught on fire from beyond the arc and challenged the Filipinos in the final period of the game.
With just 45 seconds left, a three-point shot by Amjyot Sngh cut the led to a single digits at 84-76 with India’s incredible 11-0 run in the fourth quarter. At the end of the Gilas Pilipinas vs. India match up, a total of six players from the Philippines scored in double-figures led by Jeff Chan and Marcus Douthit with 14 points.
India’s leading scorer, Amrithpal Singh scored 16 points for India but he suffered an injury, had to be stretched off the gym at the end of the game.
