The highly anticipated 2014 Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Cheer Dance Competition will take place today, September 14, 2014 at the historic Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City. We will preview, the eight participating schools in the league which will field their respective Pep Squads as they vie for one of the most popular crowns during the collegiate sports competition, the UAAP.

Although the Cheer Dance Competition will have no bearing or will not get an additional points in the UAAP overall championship tally, winning the CDC has always been one of the primary goals of each respective universities participating in the competition. There will be cash prizes at stakes and the highly-touted recognition and one of the most watched events in the UAAP.
Here’s Our Preview of the UAAP Cheer Dance Competition 2014:

1. University of the East (UE) Red Squad: The UE Red Squad placed sixth during the 2013 CDC, this time around the pep squad aims to win their first medal in the CDC since winning the title during the year 2002 wherein they settle for second place. The squad just don’t want to settle for second place in the 2014 CDC edition but they’re really craving for the title, as noted by UE Red Squad coach Gibson Alegre.
2. FEU Cheering Squad: Considered as one of the most successful in the UAAP Cheer Dance Competition, but last year they just finished fourth place, after their successful third overall gold medal in the competition. The last time that the FEU Cheering Squad failed to make it to the Top Three was way back in 2002.
3. UP Pep Squad: The UAAP’s most successful squad in the CDC history is now looking to reclaim their top spot and were eager to win their sixth gold medal in the past eight years. The UP Pep Squad assistant coach NJ Antonio, noted that this season’s UAAP CDC, the team will do something different with their performance. In overall medal tally in the CDC, the UP Pep Squad leads with a total of 18 medals.
4. UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe: During the year 2013, the team just finished at seventh-place, this time around they are going to aim for an opportunity to get back to the podium. From the year 2002-2006, the team won the CDC five straight times, overall they garnered a total of 8 gold medals including silver and bronze, their overall medal tally is now at 14 medals.
5. Ateneo Blue Babble Battalion: The Ateneo de Manila University Cheer Dance squad is one of the least team in the CDC, with only one medal since the start of the competition, with only one (1) silver medal during the 2009 CDC. Although the Ateneans are well known in various sports discipline in the UAAP, they failed to impressed their fans in the cheer dance competition.
6. DLSU Animo Squad: The La Salle Cheer Dance team made a remarked during the 2013 edition of the CDC when their military-themed performance earned them a third-place finished in the 2013 CDC.
7. Adamson Pep Squad: The team is now looking for their second overall medal in the competition after they last won the lone silver medal during the year 2001.
8. NU Cheer Squadron: The winner of the 2013 Cheer Dance Competition, their first-ever gold medal in the competition, the team is now rearing to duplicate their success last year and win their back-to-back titles. Last year the NU Pep Squad used an Arabian-inspired them and garnered a total of 696.5 points.
