The award-winning singer Lea Salonga takes the highly popular “Ice Bucket Challenge” and posted her video in the biggest-sharing site YouTube on Thursday night August 21, 2014.
In the video, the “Miss Saigon” star explained that she wanted to do the challenge for the uncle of her husband, Robert Charles Chien, who passed away due to Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s disease.
“An uncle of my husband (pointing to Robert Charles Chien who was partly seen in the video holding the bucket) passed away from ALS not very long ago. His name was Tommy Lee and it is out of love for him that we’re both doing this,” she said.
“We have seen what it (ALS) can do and how it can impact a family, so this is why I’m doing this and experiencing temporary discomfort for something very important,” she further said.
“Ice Bucket Challenge” is done to raise funds for ALS community in the United States. Participants should record themselves doing the challenge and posted it on the social media sites.
Before getting drenched, they have to nominate others to do the same and if they won’t do it within 24 hours, they are expected to donate cash to the ALS community. However, others can also do the challenge and donate at the same time.
Lea Salonga passed the challenge to her fellow “The Voice of the Philippines” coaches Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo and apl.de.ap. She also dared her former leading man actor Aga Muhlach and the “Glee” star Darren Criss.
