SONA 2014: PNP To Deploy 10,000 Cops on July 28, 2014

The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced to the media that a total of more than 10,000 cops or police personnel will be deployed to provide security during the President Aquino’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 28, 2014.

The PNP will activate the “Super Task Force Kapayapaan” numbering around 10,000 cops will be composed of four individual task forces with different functions. Listed below are the list of task force under the Super Task Force Kapayapaan.

  • Task Force Anti-Criminality (law enforcement operations, peace and order)
  • Task Force Antabay (rapid deployment and intervention if needed)
  • Task Force Rimland (deployment of security personnel, civil disturbance management, traffic management, etc)
  • Task Force Reserve (deployment of regional headquarters reserve force)

The Super Task Force of the PNP will be headed by PNP National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Police Director Carmelo Valmoria, according to the PNP. The PNP noted that the PNP’s National Support Units, directoriaal staff, and regional offices will be deployed for the 2014 SONA of President Aquino.

The country’s highest official, President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III will deliver his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) which comes after he got his lowest approval ratings since assuming the presidency in 2010.

The Aquino Administration also dealt a huge blow when the Philippine Supreme Court declared parts of the administration’s Disbursement Acceleration Program as “unconstitutional.”
