LRT & MRT Announced Free Rides on June 12, 2014 Independence Day

Commuters patronizing the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) will have free rides on Thursday in commemoration of the Philippine Independence Day.

Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) spokesman Hernando Cabrera, in a twitter post, said passengers could avail themselves of free rides in MRT and LRT stations from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) and the Metro Rail Transit Authority (MRTA) announced through their respective social media accounts that they will be having a “Free Rides” tomorrow, June 12, 2014 in celebration of the Philippine Independence Day which will commemorate the 116th anniversary of country’s self-rule.

The June 12, 2014 LRT and MRT Free Rides was also held during the 2013 celebration of Philippine Independence. According to LRTA spokesman, Atty. Hernando Cabrera, all passenger can avail themselves of free rides in stations at lines 1 and 2 of the LRT from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, and at 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

The LRT Line 1 runs from Baclaran in Parañaque to Roosevelt, Quezon City, while the Line 2 of the LRT runs from Rector in Manila to Santolan area in Marikina City.

The Metro Rail Transit (MRT) travels the stretch of the country’s main thoroughfares, the Epifanio De Los Santos Avenu (EDSA), from North Avenue in Quezon City to Taft Avenue in Pasay City. The MRT also offers free ride from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, and at 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
