Caleb Johnson has been named as American Idol 2014 Season 13 winner after winning the title over Jena Irene following the star-studded finale of America’s most popular singing competition on Wednesday night (Thursday in PH), May 22, 2014.
The 23-year-old Asheville, North Carolina native bested fellow grand finalist Jena Irene with his powerful rendition of “Dream On,” “As Long as You Love Me” and “Maybe I’m Amazed” on the final sing-off on Tuesday.
“This is crazy,” Caleb Johnson said after American Idol host Ryan Seacrest announced him as the newest winner of the renowned singing competition which premieres on FOX.
Caleb Johnson is set to receive a recording contract from the competition while Jena Irene will receive a consolation prize. However, the number of votes cast were not revealed.
American Idol Season 13 finale include spectacular performances from popular artists including Demi Lovato, Lady Antebellum, Kiss and John Legend. The two-hour finale of the competition also showcased performances from judges; Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. with judge-turned-mentor Randy Jackson.
During the finale of America’s most popular singing competition, Ryan Secreast took the spotlight where he performed Richard Marx hit single “Right Here Waiting” along with the singer-songwriter.
The star-studded finale of American Idol 2014 was attended by thousands of fans and supporters which was telecast live on FOX channel.
