WEF East Asian Summit to be Held in Manila on May 21 to 23, 2014

The World Economic Forum, considered as one of the largest gatherings of economic leaders in the world will be meeting in Manila, Philippines in the next few weeks. The WEF East Asian Summit will be held on May 21 to 23, 2014 at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel, in the country’s financial business district.

According to Sushant Palakurthi Rao, WEF senior director and head of Asia, noted that in a briefing on Thursday he revealed that China will not be sending a representative to the prestigious gatherings of economic leaders in Asia.

Some of the matters to be discussed in the World Economic Forum is the security outlook of the region aside from the economic and developmental issues affecting the regions of East Asia.

The official was quoted as saying “It’s only one dimension but I think the important [thing] is that all leaders are [open] to opportunities in transcending differences through dialogue and this is an ideal platform to have those conversations,” the WEF official said.

In the upcoming WEF East Asian Summit there will be three (3) heads of state to visit the Philippines and about 600 participants from 30 countries in East Asia alongside 460 business leaders from more than 25 industry sectors are expected to converge in Manila next week.

The leaders and economic managers from various parts of the world will discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Economic Community amid unpredictable economic disruption and natural disasters.

The three heads of states to participate in WEF are Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
