San Mig Coffee Defeated Ginebra Dominated Commissioners Cup

San Mig Coffee import James Mays bounced back from below par debut and posted this time a huge 29-point and 29-rebound performance as the Mixers continue their mastery over Barangay Ginebra San Miguel on Sunday in the PLDT TVolution Commissioner’s Cup.

James Mays is a United States-born Central African basketball star who represented his country during the 2013 FIBA Africa Championship.

The energetic James Mays, who collared 12 offensive rebounds to go along with bunches of hustle plays and defensive stands connived with rookie Ian Sanggalang to spearhead the run that put San Mig in the safer zone en route to pulling off a 90-80 win over the Kings in front of another jam-packed Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“James was monster on the floor. His activity level was where we want it to be. If we call Marqus (Blakely) Mr. Everything, I think we’re going to call James Mr. Everywhere,” said San Mig Coffee coach Tim Cone. (Statement from http://sports.inquirer.net)

Almost a month after the unforgettable Manila Cl(–foul word(s) removed–)ico semifinals game 7, which netted a whooping  24, 000 crowd, Ginebra and San Mig gave the fans another thrilling match as the game went back and forth in the first three quarters.

The Kings are very much into the game only trailing by four, 75-79 at the start of the payoff period when the Mixers behind Mays and Sanggalang unloaded a blistering 10-3 spurt to pad their lead to 11 with 2:15 remaining.

The second over-all pick, who made one big basket after another during that stretch, finished with 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Philippine Cup champion San Mig to put the game away from Ginebra.

“Ian gave us that huge lift that kind of gave us that lead in the fourth quarter. He just doesn’t blink down in the fourth quarter when the pressure is on. He just doesn’t back down,” said Cone (Statement from http://sports.inquirer.net)

James Yap and PJ Simon on the other hand chipped in 13 and 11 markers respectively for the Mixers, who improved to a 2-0 start in the early-goings of the mid-season conference.

Leon Rodgers meanwhile was the lone bright spot for the Kings with 35 points but proved to be not enough as the team shot terribly in the last five minutes of the game.
