Pinoy doctor Nathaniel Cruz has won the first ever US comedy video contest, “America Meet World” with his award-winning entry titled “Junjun: The Social Media Savvy Beggar (Episode 1 Hunger).”

Nathaniel Cruz, a Pinoy doctor by profession, bested 137 other video entries hailed from 20 countries worldwide. The Filipino comedian clinched the title and defeated South African comedian Nik Rabinowitz, whose entry led by 2,000 online votes.

“Congratulations to our first ever America Meet World Winner, Nathaniel Cruz! Nathaniel is a Doctor and comedian from the Philippines,” the website stated, announcing Nathaniel Cruz as the winner.
“Junjun: The Social Media Savvy Beggar (Episode 1 Hunger),” Nathaniel Cruz’ entry tackles the story of a beggar (Cruz) who is more in favor of Facebook likes than to satisfy his hunger. The winning entry made a funny rating of 99% with more than 14,000 online votes.
Nathaniel Cruz will be given a trip to New York City in United States to personally meet the multi-awarded producers of US comedy news program, “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.”
“If you think beggars don’t use social media, think again. FYI: This does not mean to diminish the tragedy of typhoon Haiyan as it was shot early 2013. In fact it shows the kindness of my fellow Filipinos & the entire world. Filipino spirit is waterproof!” the description of the winning entry stated.
