Ginebra Looks For Bounce Back, Signs Veteran Leon Rodgers as Import in Comm’s Cup

Following a painful semifinal exit, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel has signed Leon Rodgers as the team’s import for the incoming Commissioner’s Cup. This is according to import agent Sheryl Reyes.

With Vernon Macklin ineligible in the 6-foot-9 height limit, the Kings settled with veteran wingman Rodgers to help the crowd favorite team duplicate or even improve its runner-up finish last year in the said conference.

“I have heard nothing but great things about the PBA. I am excited to to meet the staff, players and last but not the least, the outstanding fans of Ginebra,” said Rodgers, through Reyes. (Statement from Spin.ph)

The 6’7 forward is expected to bolster Ginebra’s wingman position being manned by Chris Ellis, Mac Barracael and Dylan Ababouas Greg Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar will still comprised the team’s frontline.

Rodgers is set to arrive in the country on February 24 as he is still playing in China until February 16.

The 33-year-old Rodgers is currently suiting up for Jilin Northeast Tigers in China, where he is having a productive tournament averaging 35 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.3 (–foul word(s) removed–)ists. He once scored 66 points recording a CBA record of 15 three-point conversions in a single game to power on March 11, 2009.

The experienced baller has played in Germany, France, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Dominican Republic and the Netherlands. He even won Most Valuable Player honors in the Netherlands three times.
