Azkals Introduced US Captain Thomas Dooley as New Coach

The Philippine National Football Team management introduces to the media the newest Head Coach of the Philippine Azkals, former US Captain Thomas Dooley.

The Philippine Football Federation President Mariano “Nonong” Araneta said on Friday, February 7, 2014 that Coach Thomas Dooley will start immediately preparing the team for the Challenge Cup in May 2014 which will be held in Maldives.

The 52-year-old Thomas Dooley was selected among the top unnamed European candidates on the shortlist of the Philippine Azkals who let go their most successful coach, Hans Michael Weiss, the German did not renew his contract with the Philippines.

Thomas Dooley is a former member of the United States national football team and made 81 appearances for the US, including the 1994 and 1998 Soccer World Cup, the most popular (–foul word(s) removed–)ociation football events in the world. 

The former team captain of the US National Football Team, Thomas Dooley spent much of his playing career in Germany before he made an appearances with Columbus and the New York MetroStars in the US Major League Soccer.

The American-German US Soccer superstar, Thomas Dooley stands at 6 feet and 1 inches, after his retirement he went back to Germany and became the head coach of FC Saarbrucken in 2002 and 2003. He is also the former (–foul word(s) removed–)istant coach of the US men’s national football team under Jurgen Klinsmann.

Azkals coach Thomas Dooley will have his first showing this coming March 2014 when the Philippines will play a friendly match against Malaysia and Azerbaijan, as part of the squad’s preparation for the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup.
