Replacing Bill Gates as the company’s chairman is the 64-year-old John Thompson, a member of the Microsoft Board who oversaw its search for a new Chief Executive Officer.

During the announcement of Satya Nadella as the CEO of Microsoft, Bill Gates announced “During this time of transformation, there is no better person to lead Microsoft than Satya Nadella” Bill Gates stated. He adds further that “Satya is a proven leader with hard-core engineering skills, business vision and the ability to bring people together.” Bill Gates said.

The Microsoft board of directors selected Satya Nadella because he is a company insider and a well-known engineer. For the past few years of Microsoft’s existence, the company was more successful under the leadership of Bill Gates, a programmer and its fist CEO, that under Steve Ballmer, who had background on sales.

The 46-year-old Satya Nadella came from Hyderabad, India, will be the only third CEO of Microsoft, one of America’s greatest company but struggle for position in big growth markets like Mobile and Internet Search.

Mr. Nadella’s technical background and his closer involvement with Bill Gates in product decisions, will give Microsoft an edge it lacked during Steve Ballmer’s years. Satya Nadella previously worked as the executive vice president of Microsoft’s cloud and enterprise business before he was appointed as CEO of Microsoft.

Satya Nadella has been married for 22 years and has three children, on his first email to Microsoft employees, he wrote that he is “defined by my curiosity and thirst for learning.” he stated.
