Agaton Caused Flooding in Mindanao Displaces Residents (Video)

Bagyong Agaton displaced thousands of residents in Mindanao who were forced to leave their homes on Friday, January 17, 2014 as the three major rivers in the area brought floods in Mindanao.

The Tropical Depression caused the displacement of a total of 376, 685 people, flooding about 406 villages, 66 municipalities, and 14 provinces in three regions in Mindanao, and southern Philippines as confirmed by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

According to Undersecretary Eduardo del Rosario, head of NDRRMC, the displaced residents included 161,073 residents in 222 villages of the CARAGA Region where Agusan River overflowed last week. A total of 10,000 more were added as residents of Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur evacuated from their homes.

In Davao Region XI, the largest number of displaced residents were located, a total of 184,667 people were homeless after Saug River and Libuwagan River in Davao del Norte were swollen.

In Region XI or Northern Mindanao, areas flooded are located in Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Oriental and Misamis Occidental. NDRRMC confirmed that the three affected regions in Mindanao has a total of 337 evacuation centers.
