Weiss Out as Philippine Azkals Head Coach

After conducting a year-end evaluation, Philippine Football Federation officially made decision on discontinuing Michael Weiss’ service as Azkals head coach.

Ebong Joson, PFF marketing savant, confirmed in a statement on Monday that Weiss will no longer handle the Philippine Football Team Azkals.

The Philippine Football Federation discontinued the services of Michael Weiss as head coach of the Men’s National Team effective 15 January 2014. The coaching staff will be reformed in time for the AFC Challenge Cup 2014 Finals in May 2014,” said Joson in a statement posted in Yahoo Sports Philippines.

Weiss helped the National Team to a third-place finish in the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup. He also delivers Azkals to a back-to-back Philippine peace Cup titles in 2012 and 2013. Weiss also made sure the Azkals qualified for the 2014 edition of the AFC Challenge Cup.

Under his commands since January 2010, Philippine Azkals reached its highest ranking in the FIFA at 127th place, the highest rank ever achieved by the Philippine National Men’s Football Team.

The new head coach of the Philippine Azkals will be announced soon with six candidates included in the shortlist.

“PFF officials thanked Coach Weiss for his contributions to the national team,” said PFF Joson.
