Asia News Network Raised Funds to Aid Yolanda Victims

The Asian News Network (ANN) which has 23 member news organizations including the Philippine Daily Inquirer was among the first group who immediately came to aid the victims of super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) which devastated the country on Nov. 8, 2013.

According to the ANN organizing committee, the news organization has already raised P6.6 million ($150, 000) and part of which will be given to Philippine Red Cross and other partner agencies.

ANN Executive Director Pana Janviroj from The Nation newspaper of Thailand said that ANN’s move to raised funds for the victims  “demonstrates the regional unity to support one another”.

Director Pana initiate with other members of ANN to launched a fundraising campaign for the benefit of Yolanda victims through publishing  a call for donations on the front page of newspapers of ANN members.

After publishing the donation statement to aid the victims and survivors of strongest typhoon on record, it resulted into an overwhelming amount after the organization was able to raise more than  $95,000 from donors such as the Dr. Thiem Chokwattana Foundation (Saha Group) and Muang Thai Life Insurance Co, based on The Nation report.

Separate donation from Malaysia’s Sin Chew raised $62,000 through its foundation.
