The 29-year-old Prince Harry together with his trekking team involved in a week-long Walking with the Wounded South Pole Allied Challenge charity expedition.

The charity event features teams of wounded servicemen who were supposed to race against each other. The challenge aimed to show support for the wounded soldiers and raise awareness of their strength.

The competitive element of the event was cancelled due to harsh conditions, which according to the organizers would place unnecessary strain on the participants.

The British Prince Harry joined four injured British servicemen on one team. The expeditions director Ed Parker was quoted during an interview with BBC that “Our aim was to show that, despite injury, young men and women from our armed forces can still achieve great things” he said.

Prince Harry’s team arrived at the South Pole 12:00 GMT on Friday, December 13, 2013 and planted flags to celebrate their achievement. He became the first member of the British Royal Family to reached the South Pole.
