La Salle Lady Spikers Defeated UST Tigresses Leads UAAP Volleyball Standing

The three-time UAAP Women’s Volleyball defending champion, De La Salle University Lady Spikers defeated the University of Sto. Tomas Golden Tigresses with the final score at 25-8, 27-25, 25-13, at The Arena in San Juan on Sunday.

Lady Spikers Team Captain Aby Maraño scored with 14 points, including four service aces to lead La Salle with the full support of Cyd Demecillo who added with 12 while Ara Galang contributed with 10 as La Salle joined the National University in leading the team standings of the 76th UAAP Women’s Volleyball tournament with a 2-0 win-loss record.

During the La Salle vs. UST game, the España-based volleyball squad looked to tie the match in the second set as they challenged La L(–foul word(s) removed–)e, 21-20, but the Taft-based squad scored four straight points, including two service aces from Kim Fajardo, a former member of the UST volleyball team scoring for La Salle at 24-21.

The UST’s tandem of Carmela Tunay and rooke Ria Meneses worked hard for the Tigresses as they came closer at 25-24 but UST handed La Salle a free point after Jem Gutierrez service error and the Lady Spikers took the set.

La Salle did not give the Golden Tigresses the chance to regroup as they quickly scored 10 consecutive points taking the lead at 22-6, UST tried to answer with a 6-1 (–foul word(s) removed–)ault but La Salle quickly stopped the run and went on to win the game.

With UST’s defeat, the team dropped to 1-1 in team standing. Carmela Tunay lead the UST Golden Tigresses with 10 markers.
