Chino Roque: First Pinoy to Fly into Space for  Axe AppolloThe awaited revelation for the first Filipino astronaut who will fly into space this 2014 finally has been named.

Psychology graduate from the De La Salle University Manila Chino Roque bested along with two other Filipinos in the Axe Apollo Space Academy Competition, and there are 21 others from 60 countries which will join the 30-minute trip to space.

22-year-old Roque said in an interview that his edge lies in his “never-give-up type of attitude,” and he has a confidence because Roque is a crossfit coach and grew up joining in different competitions.

In the said competition Roque is the youngest among the Filipino candidates Evan Ray Datuin and Ramil Santos.

Roque will replace the Air Force pilot Lt. Mario Mendoza Jr. who dropped out of the space race due to his conflict schedule, and for the reason that he was selected through an electronic raffle.

BBThe three Filipino representatives already underwent rigorous astronaut training at the AXE Apollo Space Camp in Orlando, Florida.

An IT engineer Santos, also underwent air space combat training while Datuin went through high G-force training, a centrifuge machine that would reproduce the pressure that human body experiences when a space aircraft blasts off into space.

For the 22 lucky winners, they will be given a chance and will receive tickets to fly into space  aboard X-COR Aerospace Lynx Aircraft in 2014.

Per ticket cost around $95,000 that will serve as an admission in space expedition corporation’s reusable shuttle, and it’s expected to start flying customers to space in the year 2015.
