Jayson Castillo, 24, is the Filipino gym receptionist in Qatar who earned the respect of Qatari trader after returning a pouch which contains QR50,000 (P600,060) cash and an iPhone.
Jayson, told Qatar’s Gulf Times that he saw a black leather pouch at Al Khor roundabout, Tuesday around 11:30am, while on his way to work.
“You feel good when you have done something like this,” he was quoted as saying after returning the pouch, adding his parents taught him “to be an honest man despite being poor.”
Jayson Castillo, raised from Pangasinan, is a BS Nursing graduate whose father is a farmer who also used to work as an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Taiwan but unfortunately returned home after he was diagnosed for heart attack.
Since that Jayson has been only two months in Qatar and likewise didn’t know whom to surrender items regarding the money and phone he found along the streets, he phoned his friend Joey Angeles and ask advice on how to return the pouch and Joey told him to go to the nearest police station.
Jayson remembered of being uncertain to pick up the pouch at first because vehicles in the surrounding area moves rapidly. The pouch may have been unintentionally dropped along the streets when one of the door of the owner’s vehicle accidentally opened while making a turn without noticing it.
The owner of the money and iPhone found as well as the police officers who witness this great act of honesty thanked Castillo and the owner added that cash and cheque were for staff salary at an establishment.
