British Aid Contribution to Yolanda Victims Reached P5.6 Billion

The British is considered as one of the most generous aid contributors to the relief and reconstruction efforts of the international community in the typhoon-stricken central provinces of the Philippines as their aid efforts will exceed £80m (about P5.6 billion).

The additional aid from Great Britain came after the British Prime Minister pledged an additional £30m in government support. The government aid of the British came as another Royal Air Force C17 landed at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport carrying heavy-duty materials and medical supplies on Saturday.

British Amb(–foul word(s) removed–)ador to the Philippines Asif Ahmad was also in Cebu City to greet the aid flight and oversee the unloading of supplies from the United Kingdom. Aside from the British national government, the public also supported the move of the government in their relief efforts to the Philippines.

The British donation was apart from the government’s order to dispatched naval vessels and a C130 transport airport to the worst-affected areas in Leyte and Samar. The first British vessel, HMS Daring, just arrived in Cebu on Sunday morning. The ship will will be followed by the C130 aircraft early next week and an aircraft carrier – the HMS Illustrious which is due to arrive by November 25, 2013.

The British C17 that arrived on Saturday in Mactan contained medical supplies from the government, two JCB diggers, two Land Rovers and a forklift truck which will be used in the areas devastated by typhoon Yolanda for clearing and reconstruction operations.
