Arwind Santos: Most Valuable Player of the PBA 2013

Petron Blaze Boosters star forward Arwind Santos finally named as the Most Valuable Player of the PBA for the year 2013 after finishing as runner-up for the previous seasons. The former FEU stalwart was named as MVP on Friday during the Leo Awards at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The 32-year-old Arwind Santos beat out Talk ‘N Text point guard Jayson Castro and Barangay Ginebra’s LA Tenorio. The Pampanga-born basketball star revealed during the awarding ceremonies that as a kid, he did odd jobs including working as a pedicab driber.

Arwind Santos won his first-ever PBA MVP trophy after coming close three times in the past few years, during the year 2008 he lost to Kelly Williams, while in 2011 to Jimmy Alapag and last year he was surp(–foul word(s) removed–)ed Mark Caguioa for the title. Arwind Santos got a total of 2,840 statistical points, Tenorio got 2,819 while Jayson Castro has 1,682 statistical points this year.

Aside from winning this year’s MVP award, Arwind Santos was also named as a member of the First Mythical Team along with Calvin Abueva, LA Tenorio, Jayson Castro and Ranidel de Ocampo.

Arwind Santos was also a member of the All-Defensive Team composed of Mark Pingris, Sonny Thoss, Marcio L(–foul word(s) removed–)iter and Gabe Norwood. Other awardees of the Leo Awards 2013 were Calvin Abueva as Rookie of the Year, KG Canaleta of Air21 won the Most Improved player, while JVee Casio took home the Sportsmanship Award for the second straight year.
