Azkals Back in Title Contention After Pakistan Defeated Chinese Taipei

The Philippine Azkals, the national football team of the country will have a chance to retain to retain their Philippine Peace Cup title as the visiting Chinese Taipei squad was defeated by Pakistan on Saturday at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.

The Chinese Taipei national football squad was the team that defeated the Philippine Azkals during the opening of the Philippine Peace Cup on Friday at Bacolod City as they were downed by 2-1 in scorecard.

The Azkals defeat against the former runner-up is one of the most surprised upset in the tournament as the Azkals was hailed as the favorite team to capture the title with the presence of a stronger line-up composed of Fil-European footballers.

The Philippine Peace Cup competition’s finale will be held in Tuesday, the Azkals could still retain the title if they beat the South Asian national football team of Pakistan, the only undefeated team in the three-team tournament.

Based upon the current standings the Pakistan national football team is leading the tournament with three points and a plus-one goal differential, the Chinese Taipei national squad came in second with three points and zero in goal difference. The Philippine Azkals is in third place with no points and a minus-one goal differential.

The Philippine Azkals chances is bright against the 170th FIFA-ranked Pakistan as they need to prevail over Pakistan by at least two goals to overcome the superior goal difference of Pakistan and Chinese Taipei.
