Line Reached 230 Million Users, Planning for Line Mall

Asia’s fastest-growing smartphone messaging company Line Corp., announced on Wednesday that they will start offering a mail order business for smartphone users this fall in Japan.

The messaging app, Line, will attempt to counter the U.S. online retailer brand Amazon.com, and Asia’s rival, the Japanese online shopping mall operator Rakuten Inc.

According to Line, their new service will be called as “Line Mall,” which will enable users of Line applications and its business partners to sell and purchase commodities and clothing through smartphones. Line Inc., is a Tokyo-based company that gained traction recently in major Asian countries as their choice of messaging app.

Aside from the announcement of Line’s newest product, Line CEO Akira Morikawa annnounced during a press conference that the messaging app have already reached more than 230 million users worldwide as of Wednesday. Line has a total of 47 million users in Japan, 18 million from Thailand, 17 million from Taiwan, 15 million from Spain and 14 million in Indonesia.

Line revealed further that aside from “Line Mall” the company will open up “Line Music” and “Line Video Calls.”
