The Ateneo Blue Eagles defeated the still winless UP Fighting Maroons with the final score at 67-59, in a comeback win in Season 76 of the UAAP Thursday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Ateneo superstar Kiefer Ravena topscored for Ateneo with 14 points, 14 rebounds and 3 steals after his team struggled in the first half, trailing by as much as 11 points, 33-22. The Blue Eagles closed the second period with an 11-1 run to trail by just one point at the halftime break.
With the Ateneo’s win, they improved their record at 4-4 while the UP Maroons dropped their record to 0-8. The Eagles picked up their third straight victory after they mounted a comeback.
The Fighting Maroons made a fight and made the game tight in the third quarter, trailing by just four points, 51-47. Ateneo scored the last shot and made ti 53-47 to end the third quarter. The Blue Eagles led by as much as 12 points in the fourth, before cruising to the win.
