The Gilas Pilipinas defeated the visiting Kazakhstan national basketball team during their final tune-up before the start of the FIBA Asia 2013. The game ended with the final score at 92-89.
The game was held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Friday, July 26, 2013. Gilas point guard Jayson Castro made a 20 points production in just 18 minutes of action while Jeff Chan scored 14 of his 20 points in the first half of the game.
The final tune-up of the Philippine team suffered some setbacks as Jayson Castro and Ranidel de Ocampo suffered from ankle injuries during the game. The Gilas tune-up against Kazakhstan team improved a lot after their miserable performance against the PBA All Stars last Wednesday.
Kazakhstan’s naturalized point guard Jerry Johnson finished with 17 points to lead Kazakhstan. Other Kazakhstan player who made a name for himself and Coach Chot Reyes got worried about is the outside scoring power of Ponomarev, who scored 14 points in the first half, despite the fact that he stands at 6-foot-10.
