The Teen Azkals or the Philippine National Under-19 football team was successful on their bid and won the Kanga Cup, a tournament in Australia featuring clubs and schools from different parts of the world.
The Philippine Teen Azkals who carried the name Carranz FC, made it to the Under-18 Cup Finals after sweeping all of their matches in group stages. The Azkals defeated John Paul College, 6-0, in the semifinals last Thursday to secure a slot in the championship round against the Capital Football Squad.
The Teen Azkals won the championship match against the Capital with the final score at 1-o, a repeat of their preliminary victory results last Monday. The Kanga Cup is Australia’s premier international youth football festival played annually in Canberra every July.
This year’s edition featured over 230 teams and 3,700 players from clubs and schools in Australia and abroad. Aside from the Philippines, South Korea, China and New Zealand were the other international squads in the tournament.
