Pilipinas Changed to Filipinas Mixed Reactions (Video)

Malacañang said yesterday changing Pilipinas to “Filipinas,” as adopted by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF), would be an interesting discussion.

The name Pilipinas will be changed to Filipinas based upon the resolution dated April 12 by the Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino who decided to revive the use of “Filipinas” instead of “Pilipinas” to promote the official and modern name of the country.

Filipinas

According to deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte in an interview, who stated that there is no letter “f” in the Filipino alphabet before and so Pilipinas was used.

Although the issue has yet to be discussed with President Aquino but the Commission wanted that right now it is fit to make use of “Filipinas” in seals, letterheads, notepads and other materials.

According to history, “Filipinas” was used to be the official name of the archipelago but it changed in the course of history. The name Philippines on the other hand was officially adopted during the American period.
