The Philippines most popular hero dog named Kabang is now back in the country of his origin after undergoing operation and over six months of treatment in the United States, more particularly in California.
The hero dog, Kabang, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 at around 3:35 A.M. on Saturday aboard Philippine Airlines (PAL) via San Francisco International Airport.
The two-year-old, Kabang, made an international headlines after he lost her snout and upper jaw and was left with a gaping wound on her face after he reportedly jumped in front of a speeding motorcycle, saving the lives of her owner’s daughter and niece who were on the path of the oncoming motorcycle.
The incident happened in Zamboanga last December 2011, the heroic deeds of Kabang reached the national and international media’s attention. In October 2012, Kabang was brought to the University of California, Davis where she underwent procedures to remove two upper teeth, reconstruct one eyelid and eventually close her facial wound with skin flaps.
Over $27,000 were raised by international donors for Kabang’s treatment and surgery at UC, Davis. Meanwhile, one of Kabang’s veterinarians, Dr. Anthony Lim, said that Kabang is scheduled to go back to her owner in Zamboanga on Sunday afternoon.
