SSS Contribution P25 Billion in First Quarter of 2013

The Philippines Social Security System (SSS) announces that they have already collected P25.58 billion in contributions for the first quarter of 2013, a 7.8% higher compared to last year’s collections.

According to SSS President and CEO Emilio de Quiros, Jr., during a statement, he was quoted that the contribution collection in Southern Mindanao increased by 5% to P1.24 billion in the first quarter.

“The bulk of the contributions came from the employed sector amounting to P21.95 billion, which is 7.2 percent higher than P20.47 billion collected in 2012. Voluntary payments also increased by 19.4 percent to P2.24 billion, while self-employed collection slightly decreased by 0.5 percent to P1.39 billion of the total collection contribution in 2013,” de Quiros said.

Meanwhile according to SSS, the total benefit disbursements fell by 2.1% in the first quarter to P21.19 billion. During the first quarter of 2013, the SSS investment income reached P10.49 billion, exceeding its target by 12.6%.

The amount was 9.3% lower than the P11.56 billion investment income in 2012. The SSS operating expenses also fell to P1.74 billion in the first quarter from P1.86 billion during the year 2012.
