Ramon B. Magsaysay Jr. is the son of the Philippines most popular commoner, the late President Ramon Magsaysay. Jun Magsaysay entered politics way back in 1966 as the representative of the lone district of Zambales.
The 74-year-old Jun Magsaysay returned to the private sector after his short stint in Congress, where he gained experience that he would later use in his career as a senator.
During his stint in the private sector, he was dubbed as the “The Father of Cable Television in the Philippines.” He pioneered the cable television business in the country. In 1991, he was tapped as the running mate of the Agrarian Reform Secretary Miriam Defensor Santiago to run as Vice President, however, he lost to then Sen. Joseph Estrada in the 1992 elections.
Although he failed to won the Vice Presidential seat, in 1995 he finally joined the public service to continue his father’s legacy and won in the senatorial elections in 1995 and reelection in 2001.
During his terms in the Senate, Jun Magsaysay worked for legislation that helped improve the living conditions of the majority of the Filipino people. His programs and policies for the development of cooperatives & small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are geared toward encouraging Filipinos to make us of their individual capabilities as they strive to attain their soci0-economic goals and uplift their standard of living to a more decent and humane condition.
