The campaign period of the May 2013 elections will start this coming February 12 but some election bets have already started to post their streamers and poster so the COMELEC issued a warning to candidates.
According to COMELEC spokesperson James Jimenez, candidates of the May 13 polls who violates the election campaign requirements may face sanctions from the agency.
The Philippine poll body asked bets to take down streamers and posters of candidates or face disqualification. Candidates were given three days upon receipt of notice to take down materials or held liable by the Commission.
COMELEC clarifies that the campaign period for those running for senator and party-list positions will start on February 12, while the campaign period for local candidates starts on March 30.
The Commission on Elections also warns that the candidates can be disqualified from the race, candidates who fail to heed the COMELEC’s warning will also face imprisonment of up to six years.
Candidates for the upcoming May 2013 Elections should adhere to the Resolution No. 9615, which stipulates the implementing rules and regulations of Republic Act. 7166 or the Fair Elections Act.
