The Philippine National Football Team suffered their first loss in the AFF Suzuki Cup after they were defeated by the home team Thailand to end the game with the final score at 2-1 in favor of the War Elephants.
Thailand now took the pole position in Group A with a total of 3 points while the Philippines was dropped to the bottom of the Group. The match between Vietnam and Myanmar ended with 1-1 draw which put the two teams tied at the second spot in Group A.
Thailand took the lead at around 39th minutes when Jakkapan (–foul word(s) removed–)sai scored the first goal for Thailand and in the 40th minute it was followed by an impressive ball handling skills and scoring by Anucha Kitspongsri to put Thailand ahead at 2-nil.
The Philippines made a comeback at the second half when Paul Mulders scored his first international goal by courtesy of a cross p(–foul word(s) removed–) from substitute Patrick Reichelt at around 77th minutes.
