Rey Migreno Defeated Wonjongkam Named Fighter of the Year

An unfamiliar Filipino boxer have made another spectacular upset in the world of boxing as Rey Mireno inflicted a shocking loss to a legendary Thai boxer Pongsaklek Wonjongkam.

The victory of Migreno gave him the award as the “Fighter of the Year” by the World Boxing Council. Migreno’s spectacular third-round technical knockout of the Thai boxer Wonjongkam sent the popular Thai fighter into retirement.

The boxing match was held on a Halloween 12-round boxing extravaganza at Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. Right after the defeat of Wonjongkam he announced that he’s finally hanging up his gloves.

Rey Migreno captured the WBC International Flyweight Title during the boxing title match. The boxing match ended at 2:05 mark of the third round after Migreno sent Wonjongkam to the canv(–foul word(s) removed–).

Referee Noppharat Sricharoen stopped the fight without bothering to count. It was the second loss of Wonjongkam at the hands of a Filipino pugilist.

Earlier this year, the Thai boxer suffered a surprising loss to Sonny Boy Jaro, who was stunned by the Filipino and after sixth round he was demolished by Jaro who captured the WBC Flyweight Title.

Wonjongkam was one of the best fighter in Asia as he was able to reigned as WBC Champion from 2001-07 and defended the title 17 times before losing to Daisuke Naito in a 12-round unanimous decision.

The Thai boxer made a remarkable career lasting for 18-years with an overall record of 87-5-2, with 46 KOs. It was his first loss against Migreno in three fights – winning the first two by unanimous decision and a first-round stoppage.

In winning the biggest fight of his career, Rey Migreno improved to 18-20-3 with 16 KOs.
