Julie Bowen Joins Mylan Specialty L.P. to Launch Health Awareness Initiative

Actress Julie Bowen, known for her roles in Modern Family and Boston Legal, has joined Mylan Specialty L.P to launch Get Schooled In Anaphylaxis campaign.

During the campaign with mainly focus on educating the school community, they are trying to raise awareness about life-threatening allergic reactions. By introducing the symptoms as well as talking about the need for immediate action to be taken in case of such reactions, one of the goals is to reduce the number of deaths (–foul word(s) removed–)ociated with anaphylaxis.

To get the school community involved as much as possible, Bowen is calling students from around the U.S. to join their Get Schooled in Anaphylaxis Challenge where students can submit their brief essays about anaphylaxis – how to help their school become more aware of the topic as well as how to make the students who may be at risk to be more accepted in schools. That, and also ideas on how to solve other challenges relating to being at risk of anaphylaxis. The authors of top 15 essays will receive a $2000 college scholarship.

“Through the Get Schooled in Anaphylaxis Challenge, students across the country will have the opportunity to educate their peers and help everyone be more aware of life-threatening allergies, ” said Bowen. Hemant Sharma, M.D. from Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C added that “We need to make sure everyone responsible for the safety of children in schools knows how to identify and avoid allergic triggers, recognize anaphylaxis signs and symptoms, and understand how to quickly get appropriate treatment and immediate medical care when a life-threatening allergic reaction occurs.”
