A Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) has been issued by the Supreme Court of the Philippines after the Justices of the highest judicial body of the Philippines voted unanimously to stop the enforcement of the controversial Cybercrime Prevention Act.
All the 14 Judges of the Supreme Court voted to stop the implementation and enforcement of the new law, the Republic Act 10175 Â which was more popularly known in the internet media as the “e-Martial Law.”
After a series of protest actions staged by the different groups and some of them staged their protest in front of the Supreme Court premises on Padre Faura Street in Manila.
Most of the protesters were primarily against a certain provision in the law that criminalizes libel in cyberspace and grants the Justice department to block without court order, or access to data and potentially take down sites on a mere prima facie finding of violations of RA 10175.
Although the groups who are protesting cheered upon hearing the news of the issuance of the TRO, they remained adamant that the law be repealed.
For the records there are already a total of 15 petitions to stop the enforcement of the law which have been filed with the Supreme Court.
