Microsoft Hoax Alert: Beware of Phishing E-Mail that will Steal your Password

One of the latest hoax that was revealed Naked Security, a blog by IT security firm Sophos warns those individuals who have already received an e-mail from Microsoft.

According to the report, when you have received an e-mail from [email protected] in your inbox, please delete the message for it is a hoax.

Once you have opened the message you will become a target of a phishing scam designed to steal your Gmail, Yahoo, Windows Live and AOL passwords.

The e-mail was entitled, “Microsoft Windows Update,” the e-mail will urges their recipients to verify their email accounts by entering their login information.

Here’s the e-mail which seemed to be legitimate:

Dear Windows User,

It has come to our attention that your Microsoft windows Installation records are out of date. Every Windows installation has to be tied to an email account for daily update.

This requires you to verify the Email Account. Failure to verify your records will result in account suspension. Click in the Verify button below and enter your login information on the following page to Confirm your records.

Microsoft Windows Team.

Once you successfully opened your e-mail and start clicking verify you will become a victim of the phishing activities, the link will lead you to a third-party website that purports to be Microsoft.com which is a fake site.

The site will then asked you to verify your e-mail account through the four listed providers. When you login to your e-mail account your data will be in the hands of the scammers.
