Demitrius Omphroy: Newest Azkals Member Playing vs. Guam at Phil. Peace Cup

Demitrius Omphroy was the latest addition of the Philippine Azkals who made an impression for the Philippines on their FIFA-sanctioned games against Guam in the Philippine Football Peace Cup held at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Omphroy was a California Golden Bear soccer alumnus who joined the Philippine Men’s National Team for training camp and a pair of games, he was also part with the international friendly with the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Demitrius Omphroy was wearing the number 34 jersey of the Philippine Azkals and was included in the first 11 of the national team. The Filipino-American Omphroy was previously playing for the Californian soccer team from 2007-2010. He was a major contributor to the 2010 Golden Bear squad that reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.

Omphroy was a product of Alameda, California and was training with the Panama Under-21 Men’s National Team in 2010. He was also a member of the US Youth National Teams at the U-15 and U-16 but never played for a senior team which put him eligible to play for the Philippine Azkals.

The newest member of the Philippine Azkals was selected by Toronto in the second round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft and waived the former Bear in November of that year. Omphroy debuted for the Toronto FC last June 29, 2011.

Omphroy’s suffered from multiple multiple sclerosis but moved on to play for the Toronto FC but he was waived by the team and played for Global FC in the Philippines. He was also featured on Justine Bieber’s music video “Boyfriend.”
