Smart Gilas Defeated by Qatar 63-79 Settled for Fourth Place

The Philippines National Basketball Team failed to defeat Qatar in the Battle for Third Place in the 2012 FIBA Asia Cup after the final buzzer sounded off with the final score at 63-79 in favor of Qatar.

Qatar made an outright ticket to the 2013 FIBA Asia Championships to be held in Lebanon while the Philippines settled for the fourth place and needed to win the championship in SEABA to secure a ticket to the FIBA Asia Championship.

Mohmmed topscored for Qatar as he was able to produce 17 points and 9 rebounds. Johnson added with 16 points and Abdi contributed with 14 points.

The Philippines was led by Marcus Douthit with a total of 17 points and 10 rebounds although he was sprained a minute before the end of the first half.

Gary David contributed with 15 points while Dillinger added with 12 points and Gabe Norwood had a total of 10 points.

The Philippine side shot a miserable 2-of-18 (11 percent) from beyond the arc and 38 percent overall as it couldn’t sustain a second half comeback run.

Smart Gilas was outscored by Qatar in the rebounding department also with a total of 47-31 edge in terms of rebound.
