Smart Gilas made a tremendous performance yesterday by defeating the three-time depending champion Iran and ended the team’s winning streak with the final score at 77-75. With the Philippines’ win the Nationals now tops the team standing with 5-1 win-loss card in the on-going competition held in Taiwan.
The Philippines will now get a rare chance of capturing the title as they battle today the home team Chinese Taipei A which is considered as more impressive compared to their compatriot that was previously defeated by Smart Gilas in the early stages of the competition.
Smart Gilas needs to win the remaining two games of the competition to get the title, a loss from the Nationals will secure the Iranian’s spot in the title if they could easily beat their next schedule against South Korea and Japan, both teams were struggling to climb on standings.
Meanwhile the Smart Gilas needs to focus on their game against the Chinese Taipei today at around 3:00 PM to secure a bronze medal finish in the competition. Chinese Taipei on the other hand improved their current team standing with a 4-2 record and tied with South Korea at the fourth spot of the tournament after they defeated their compatriot Taiwan B with the final score at 84-66.
