The Philippine National Basketball Team have already secured a silver medal finished after they defeated the home team Chinese Taipei with the final score at 76-72.
The next game for the Philippines is against the strongest team they have to faced, the Americans tomorrow to end the competition in a high note although they were defeated earlier by Lebanon a day before they trampled Iran.
Smart Gilas was able to defused the rally made by the Taiwanese in the final minutes of the game and one of the most important shots that was made by the Philippines was through the effort of Gary David who sunk the important three pointers in the final seconds of the game, to put Gilas ahead at 76-70.
Another important basket was made by De Ocampo to put the Philippines ahead during the time when Marcus Douthit was struggling in the final minutes of the game.
During the third quarter the Smart Gilas was outscored by the Taiwanese with 10 points unleashing 27 points compared to the Philippines 17 point production.
The Philippines will try to defeat the US Team to win another title for the Philippines and add more championships. A win against the United States tomorrow will end the Philippines drought after the National Centennial Team of 1998 captured the Jones Cup Title.
